What is Monad (MON)?
Monad is a layer-1 blockchain that runs Ethereum smart contracts at much higher throughput, and MON is its native token. The network and the token launched together on 24 November 2025. Core development is led by Category Labs, the company formerly called Monad Labs, while the Monad Foundation supports the ecosystem.

How Monad works
Validators stake MON and agree on blocks with MonadBFT, a Byzantine fault tolerant consensus protocol. Execution runs asynchronously behind consensus and processes transactions in parallel while keeping their order in the block, so the chain produces blocks and reaches finality in under a second while remaining compatible with Ethereum wallets and tools.
What MON is used for
MON pays for gas on every Monad transaction and can be delegated to validators to earn a share of block rewards. It is also the main base asset for trading and DeFi apps on the network.
MON supply
The initial supply at mainnet launch was 100 billion MON. New MON is minted with every block as a staking reward, adding roughly 2% of the initial supply per year, while the base fee of each transaction is burned.
Before you swap MON
MON arrives at a standard 0x address on Monad mainnet (chain ID 143), so make sure your wallet has that network added. Monad also keeps a 10 MON reserve rule: a transfer that would leave less than that can fail if the same wallet sent another transaction a few blocks earlier, so space out back-to-back transactions when emptying a wallet.
