How to convert Tether to Aleo

The widget above is already set to USDT on Ethereum → ALEO on Aleo. The whole swap runs in one flow through NEAR Intents:

Step 1: Choose how to pay
Connect any EVM wallet such as MetaMask or Rabby that holds your USDT. Or turn on Swap from external wallet to get a deposit address and QR code you can pay from any wallet or exchange; you then add an address on Ethereum for refunds.

Step 2: Enter the amount and where to receive
Type how much USDT to swap and the Aleo address that receives the ALEO, from an Aleo wallet such as Shield or FoxWallet. The widget shows how much ALEO you will receive, fees included, before you confirm.

Step 3: Confirm and send
Approve the transfer in your wallet, or send the amount to the deposit address. Once it confirms on Ethereum, solvers fill the swap and the ALEO is sent to your address on Aleo. If the swap can't be filled, your USDT is refunded.

Prefer to keep a balance inside NEAR Intents? The Deposit tab adds USDT to it, Swap trades within it, and Withdraw sends tokens out to their own networks.

⚠ Important: receive on an address you control. If you send the ALEO to an exchange instead, check that it accepts ALEO on Aleo: some exchanges don't credit deposits that come from a smart contract.

About the USDT → ALEO swap

This is a cross-chain swap: your USDT leaves Ethereum and ALEO arrives on Aleo. Normally that takes a bridge plus a DEX, or a centralized exchange account. With NEAR Intents the deposit, swap and withdrawal happen in one flow, and what lands in your wallet is ALEO on Aleo, ready to use there with no second bridging step.

Swapping USDT to ALEO is how you buy Aleo with US dollars you already hold on-chain: you pay in a stablecoin and receive ALEO directly on Aleo.

About Tether and Aleo

What is Tether (USDT)?

Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of one US dollar, issued by the company Tether since 2014. Having started on Bitcoin's Omni Layer, it has since expanded to many blockchains, including Ethereum, TRON, Solana and others.

How Tether works

Tether creates new USDT when verified customers deposit dollars and redeems tokens for dollars when they are returned, so the supply follows demand. The company reports holding reserve assets, mainly US Treasury bills and cash equivalents, to back the tokens in circulation and publishes periodic attestations of those reserves.

What USDT is used for

Traders use USDT to park funds between trades and as a quote currency on exchanges around the world. It is also common for cross-border payments and for saving in dollars in places with volatile local currencies.

USDT supply

There is no fixed supply: tokens are minted when dollars come in and burned when they are redeemed. The goal is for each USDT to be backed by reserves worth at least one dollar.

Before you swap USDT

USDT exists on many networks, and the swap widget defaults to the Ethereum version, so confirm the selected network matches the chain of your wallet before sending or receiving. Sending USDT over the wrong network can make funds difficult or impossible to recover.

What is Aleo (ALEO)?

Aleo is a layer-1 blockchain for private applications whose mainnet went live in September 2024, putting the ideas of the Zexe research paper into production. Its node software is developed by Provable together with the Aleo Network Foundation.

How Aleo works

Applications, usually written in the Leo language, compile to circuits so that transactions carry zero-knowledge proofs, letting the network verify them without seeing private inputs. Validators stake ALEO and agree on blocks with AleoBFT, a proof-of-stake protocol based on Narwhal and Bullshark, while provers earn rewards for solving a proof-of-succinct-work puzzle. Since July 2025 provers must also stake ALEO for each solution they submit.

What ALEO is used for

ALEO pays network fees and is staked with validators for rewards. It can be held as a public balance or as encrypted private records, and the network also hosts private stablecoins such as USDCx and USAD.

ALEO supply

Aleo launched with 1.5 billion tokens and has no hard cap. New ALEO is minted every block to reward validators, stakers and provers, and the launch plan projected supply passing 2.6 billion within ten years as yearly emissions decline.

Before you swap ALEO

Aleo addresses start with aleo1 and are 63 characters long. Because ALEO can sit in a public balance or in private records, wallets may show the two separately, so if a transfer does not appear, check both. Keep a little ALEO for fees unless your wallet covers them.

What to know before swapping Tether for Aleo

Use the widget on this page, already set to USDT on Ethereum → ALEO on Aleo: connect your wallet or pay by QR code, enter the amount and your Aleo address, and confirm. NEAR Intents swaps it and sends the ALEO to that address in one flow, and the widget shows the exact amount you will receive before you confirm.
