How to convert Tether to Plasma

The widget above is already set to USDT on Ethereum → XPL on Plasma. The whole swap runs in one flow through NEAR Intents:

Step 1: Choose how to pay
Connect any EVM wallet such as MetaMask or Rabby that holds your USDT. Or turn on Swap from external wallet to get a deposit address and QR code you can pay from any wallet or exchange; you then add an address on Ethereum for refunds.

Step 2: Enter the amount and where to receive
Type how much USDT to swap and the Plasma address that receives the XPL, from any EVM wallet such as MetaMask or Rabby. The widget shows how much XPL you will receive, fees included, before you confirm.

Step 3: Confirm and send
Approve the transfer in your wallet, or send the amount to the deposit address. Once it confirms on Ethereum, solvers fill the swap and the XPL is sent to your address on Plasma. If the swap can't be filled, your USDT is refunded.

Prefer to keep a balance inside NEAR Intents? The Deposit tab adds USDT to it, Swap trades within it, and Withdraw sends tokens out to their own networks.

⚠ Important: receive on an address you control. If you send the XPL to an exchange instead, check that it accepts XPL on Plasma: some exchanges don't credit deposits that come from a smart contract.

About the USDT → XPL swap

This is a cross-chain swap: your USDT leaves Ethereum and XPL arrives on Plasma. Normally that takes a bridge plus a DEX, or a centralized exchange account. With NEAR Intents the deposit, swap and withdrawal happen in one flow, and what lands in your wallet is XPL on Plasma, ready to use there with no second bridging step.

Swapping USDT to XPL is how you buy Plasma with US dollars you already hold on-chain: you pay in a stablecoin and receive XPL directly on Plasma.

About Tether and Plasma

What is Tether (USDT)?

Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of one US dollar, issued by the company Tether since 2014. Having started on Bitcoin's Omni Layer, it has since expanded to many blockchains, including Ethereum, TRON, Solana and others.

How Tether works

Tether creates new USDT when verified customers deposit dollars and redeems tokens for dollars when they are returned, so the supply follows demand. The company reports holding reserve assets, mainly US Treasury bills and cash equivalents, to back the tokens in circulation and publishes periodic attestations of those reserves.

What USDT is used for

Traders use USDT to park funds between trades and as a quote currency on exchanges around the world. It is also common for cross-border payments and for saving in dollars in places with volatile local currencies.

USDT supply

There is no fixed supply: tokens are minted when dollars come in and burned when they are redeemed. The goal is for each USDT to be backed by reserves worth at least one dollar.

Before you swap USDT

USDT exists on many networks, and the swap widget defaults to the Ethereum version, so confirm the selected network matches the chain of your wallet before sending or receiving. Sending USDT over the wrong network can make funds difficult or impossible to recover.

What is Plasma (XPL)?

Plasma is a layer-1 blockchain designed around stablecoin payments, and XPL is its native token. The mainnet beta and the token launched together on 25 September 2025. The team also builds Plasma One, a stablecoin account and card app that runs on the network.

How Plasma works

Plasma reaches consensus with PlasmaBFT, a pipelined version of the Fast HotStuff protocol in which staked validators finalize blocks within seconds, and it executes transactions on an Ethereum-compatible engine built on Reth. Validators that misbehave lose rewards rather than their stake. The network started with a small set of known validators and plans to open validation to the public over time.

What XPL is used for

XPL pays transaction fees on Plasma, which currently accepts gas only in XPL, and it is the stake validators lock to secure the network. Plasma is also building a protocol-run paymaster so apps can let users pay fees in stablecoins instead.

XPL supply

Ten billion XPL existed at the mainnet beta launch. Validator rewards are planned to start at 5% annual inflation and fall by half a percentage point a year to 3%, but they only switch on once external validators and delegation go live. Base fees are burned, as on Ethereum.

Before you swap XPL

XPL arrives as the native coin of Plasma mainnet beta (chain ID 9745) at a standard 0x address, so add the Plasma network to your EVM wallet to see it. Keep some XPL afterwards, since gas on Plasma is currently paid in XPL even when you move stablecoins.

What to know before swapping Tether for Plasma

Use the widget on this page, already set to USDT on Ethereum → XPL on Plasma: connect your wallet or pay by QR code, enter the amount and your Plasma address, and confirm. NEAR Intents swaps it and sends the XPL to that address in one flow, and the widget shows the exact amount you will receive before you confirm.
