How to convert Meta Pool DAO to Bitcoin

Converting mpDAO to BTC on NEAR Mobile Swap is done in three simple steps through the NEAR Intents protocol: Deposit, Swap, and Withdraw.

Step 1 — Deposit mpDAO from NEAR
Go to the Deposit tab and select Meta Pool DAO (mpDAO) on NEAR. The widget will generate a deposit address (or QR code) — send your mpDAO there from any wallet. Once the deposit is confirmed on NEAR, your mpDAO balance appears inside NEAR Intents.

Step 2 — Swap mpDAO to BTC on NEAR Intents
Switch to the Swap tab, pick mpDAO as the source and BTC as the target. Enter the amount and confirm — solvers compete to fill your order and the swap settles in seconds.

Step 3 — Withdraw BTC to Bitcoin
Finally, go to the Withdraw tab. Select Bitcoin (BTC) from your NEAR Intents balance and choose Bitcoin as the destination. Enter an address from any Bitcoin wallet and confirm.

⚠ Important: When entering a withdrawal address, make sure it is a personal wallet you control. Some centralized exchanges do not support receiving funds from smart-contract-based deposits — sending to an exchange address may result in lost funds.

About the mpDAOBTC swap

This is a cross-chain swap: your mpDAO leaves NEAR and BTC arrives on Bitcoin. Normally that takes a bridge plus a DEX, or a centralized exchange account. With NEAR Intents the deposit, swap and withdrawal happen in one flow, and what lands in your wallet is BTC on Bitcoin, not a wrapped copy you have to bridge again.

Both mpDAO and BTC float against the dollar, so the mpDAO/BTC rate moves with two markets at once. Traders use this pair to rotate between ecosystems in a single step instead of selling to a stablecoin first.

About Meta Pool DAO and Bitcoin

What is Meta Pool DAO (mpDAO)?

mpDAO governs Meta Pool, the liquid staking provider that issues stNEAR on NEAR and has expanded to other networks. It replaced the earlier META token in April 2024 through the mpIP-3 proposal, which swapped locked META for locked mpDAO one for one, and it was also launched on Ethereum.

How Meta Pool DAO works

Holders lock mpDAO for 30 to 300 days to get voting power. A 30-day lock gives half a vote per token and a 300-day lock gives five. Those votes decide which validators receive the share of Meta Pool's NEAR stake that the DAO controls, and they are also used on governance proposals.

What mpDAO is used for

Stakers and validators lock the token to steer stake delegation and vote on protocol changes. Locked holders who vote also qualify for a monthly share of Meta Pool fees, paid in assets such as stNEAR or mpDAO.

mpDAO supply

Total supply is fixed at 1 billion tokens, the same cap and allocation as the old META token, which included community, founder, investor and team shares with multi-year vesting.

Before you swap mpDAO

Swaps here use the NEAR version (mpdao-token.near). There is also an ERC-20 on Ethereum, so check which network you are sending to. Tokens you receive are unlocked; you need to lock them in Meta Pool to vote.

What is Bitcoin (BTC)?

Bitcoin is the first decentralized cryptocurrency, described in a 2008 white paper by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto and brought to life when its network went live in January 2009. BTC is the native unit of that network and moves directly between users without a bank or payment processor in the middle.

How Bitcoin works

Miners compete to add blocks by running SHA-256 hashing hardware in a Proof of Work process, and the chain with the most accumulated work is treated as valid. Every full node independently checks each transaction against the rules, so the ledger's history becomes harder to alter with every block stacked on top.

What BTC is used for

Most holders treat BTC as a long-term store of value and a hedge outside the traditional financial system. It is also used for cross-border transfers, as collateral in lending markets, and as a base trading pair across the crypto industry.

BTC supply

The protocol limits total issuance to 21 million BTC. New coins enter circulation only as block rewards, and that reward is cut in half roughly every four years in an event known as the halving.

Before you swap BTC

Bitcoin blocks arrive about every ten minutes on average, so a BTC deposit can take noticeably longer to confirm than deposits on faster chains. Double-check the receiving address format before withdrawing, since Bitcoin transactions cannot be reversed.
