How to convert Coinbase Wrapped BTC to USD Coin

Converting cbBTC to USDC on NEAR Mobile Swap is done in three simple steps through the NEAR Intents protocol: Deposit, Swap, and Withdraw.

Step 1 — Deposit cbBTC from Base
Go to the Deposit tab and select Coinbase Wrapped BTC (cbBTC) on Base. The widget will generate a deposit address (or QR code) — send your cbBTC there from any wallet. Once the deposit is confirmed on Base, your cbBTC balance appears inside NEAR Intents.

Step 2 — Swap cbBTC to USDC on NEAR Intents
Switch to the Swap tab, pick cbBTC as the source and USDC as the target. Enter the amount and confirm — solvers compete to fill your order and the swap settles in seconds.

Step 3 — Withdraw USDC to Ethereum
Finally, go to the Withdraw tab. Select USD Coin (USDC) from your NEAR Intents balance and choose Ethereum as the destination. Enter an address from any EVM wallet such as MetaMask or Rabby and confirm.

⚠ Important: When entering a withdrawal address, make sure it is a personal wallet you control. Some centralized exchanges do not support receiving funds from smart-contract-based deposits — sending to an exchange address may result in lost funds.

About the cbBTCUSDC swap

This is a cross-chain swap: your cbBTC leaves Base and USDC arrives on Ethereum. Normally that takes a bridge plus a DEX, or a centralized exchange account. With NEAR Intents the deposit, swap and withdrawal happen in one flow, and what lands in your wallet is USDC on Ethereum, not a wrapped copy you have to bridge again.

Swapping cbBTC to USDC converts a volatile asset into a dollar-pegged stablecoin — a common way to lock in a price or step out of market swings without off-ramping to a bank account.

About Coinbase Wrapped BTC and USD Coin

What is Coinbase Wrapped BTC (cbBTC)?

cbBTC is a wrapped representation of bitcoin issued by Coinbase. It went live in September 2024, first on Ethereum and Base, giving BTC holders a way to use their coins inside EVM applications without leaving the Coinbase ecosystem.

How Coinbase Wrapped BTC works

Every cbBTC in circulation is backed by one BTC that Coinbase holds on behalf of token holders. When a Coinbase customer wraps bitcoin, the exchange mints cbBTC to their address; when tokens are sent back for redemption, they are burned and the underlying BTC is released.

What cbBTC is used for

Holders deposit cbBTC as collateral in lending markets, pair it in liquidity pools or use it for BTC-denominated trades on Base and Ethereum. It also serves as a convenient route for moving bitcoin value into smart-contract apps while keeping price exposure to BTC.

cbBTC supply

There is no independent issuance schedule: supply expands and contracts with the bitcoin Coinbase holds in reserve, at a 1:1 ratio.

Before you swap cbBTC

This is a custodial wrapper, not native bitcoin, so the redemption guarantee rests on Coinbase. It can be withdrawn on Base or Ethereum, and you will need a little ETH on the receiving network to move it afterwards.

What is USD Coin (USDC)?

USDC is a US dollar stablecoin issued by Circle, first launched in September 2018 through the Centre consortium that Circle founded with Coinbase. Circle now manages the token directly, and USDC is issued natively on a range of blockchains, with Ethereum among the largest.

How USD Coin works

Each USDC is meant to be redeemable for one dollar, and Circle mints or burns tokens as institutional customers deposit or withdraw funds. Reserves are held in cash and short-dated US government obligations, largely through a dedicated fund, and Circle publishes regular reports on their composition.

What USDC is used for

USDC is widely used for settlement and payments, both in crypto markets and in business transfers that benefit from moving dollars at any hour. In decentralized finance it serves as a common unit for lending, liquidity pools and trading.

USDC supply

Supply is elastic: USDC is created when dollars are deposited and destroyed when it is redeemed. Circle aims to keep reserves equal to or greater than the amount of USDC in circulation.

Before you swap USDC

The widget defaults to USDC on Ethereum, but the same token also lives on Solana, NEAR, Base and other chains, so select the network your wallet actually uses. Beware of bridged versions with similar names, which are not the same as natively issued USDC.
