How to convert Stellar to USD Coin

The widget above is already set to XLM on Stellar → USDC on Ethereum. The whole swap runs in one flow through NEAR Intents:

Step 1: Choose how to pay
Connect a Stellar wallet such as LOBSTR or Freighter that holds your XLM. Or turn on Swap from external wallet to get a deposit address and QR code you can pay from any wallet or exchange; you then add an address on Stellar for refunds.

Step 2: Enter the amount and where to receive
Type how much XLM to swap and the Ethereum address that receives the USDC, from any EVM wallet such as MetaMask or Rabby. The widget shows how much USDC you will receive, fees included, before you confirm.

Step 3: Confirm and send
Approve the transfer in your wallet, or send the amount to the deposit address. Once it confirms on Stellar, solvers fill the swap and the USDC is sent to your address on Ethereum. If the swap can't be filled, your XLM is refunded.

Prefer to keep a balance inside NEAR Intents? The Deposit tab adds XLM to it, Swap trades within it, and Withdraw sends tokens out to their own networks.

⚠ Important: receive on an address you control. If you send the USDC to an exchange instead, check that it accepts USDC on Ethereum: some exchanges don't credit deposits that come from a smart contract.

About the XLM → USDC swap

This is a cross-chain swap: your XLM leaves Stellar and USDC arrives on Ethereum. Normally that takes a bridge plus a DEX, or a centralized exchange account. With NEAR Intents the deposit, swap and withdrawal happen in one flow, and what lands in your wallet is USDC on Ethereum, ready to use there with no second bridging step.

Swapping XLM to USDC converts a volatile asset into a dollar-pegged stablecoin, a common way to lock in a price or step out of market swings without off-ramping to a bank account.

About Stellar and USD Coin

What is Stellar (XLM)?

Stellar is an open-source payments network that went live in 2014, co-founded by Jed McCaleb and Joyce Kim and supported by the non-profit Stellar Development Foundation. Lumens (XLM) are its native asset, and the network is built for moving value and issuing tokens such as stablecoins.

How Stellar works

Stellar uses neither mining nor staking. Validators run the Stellar Consensus Protocol, a federated Byzantine agreement in which nodes rely on sets of peers they trust, and the network reaches consensus in under six seconds. The ledger has a built-in exchange for issued assets and, since February 2024, Soroban smart contracts.

What XLM is used for

XLM pays transaction fees, from 100 stroops (0.00001 XLM) per operation, and covers the minimum balance every account must hold. Payment apps and ramp providers use Stellar to move stablecoins and local currencies across borders.

XLM supply

One hundred billion lumens were created at launch. A 1% yearly inflation added more until validators voted to end it on 28 October 2019, and in November 2019 the foundation burned about 55 billion of its own lumens, leaving roughly 50 billion XLM with no new issuance.

Before you swap XLM

A new Stellar account only exists once it holds 1 XLM (two base reserves of 0.5 XLM), and each trustline or other entry locks another 0.5 XLM. Exchanges usually require a memo on XLM deposits, but the withdrawal field here takes only an address, so withdraw to your own wallet unless the exchange offers a muxed address starting with M. When depositing XLM manually, include the memo shown with the deposit address.

What is USD Coin (USDC)?

USDC is a US dollar stablecoin issued by Circle, first launched in September 2018 through the Centre consortium that Circle founded with Coinbase. Circle now manages the token directly, and USDC is issued natively on a range of blockchains, with Ethereum among the largest.

How USD Coin works

Each USDC is meant to be redeemable for one dollar, and Circle mints or burns tokens as institutional customers deposit or withdraw funds. Reserves are held in cash and short-dated US government obligations, largely through a dedicated fund, and Circle publishes regular reports on their composition.

What USDC is used for

USDC is widely used for settlement and payments, both in crypto markets and in business transfers that benefit from moving dollars at any hour. In decentralized finance it serves as a common unit for lending, liquidity pools and trading.

USDC supply

Supply is elastic: USDC is created when dollars are deposited and destroyed when it is redeemed. Circle aims to keep reserves equal to or greater than the amount of USDC in circulation.

Before you swap USDC

The widget defaults to USDC on Ethereum, but the same token also lives on Solana, NEAR, Base and other chains, so select the network your wallet actually uses. Beware of bridged versions with similar names, which are not the same as natively issued USDC.

What to know before swapping Stellar for USD Coin

Use the widget on this page, already set to XLM on Stellar → USDC on Ethereum: connect your wallet or pay by QR code, enter the amount and your Ethereum address, and confirm. NEAR Intents swaps it and sends the USDC to that address in one flow, and the widget shows the exact amount you will receive before you confirm.
